Canine and Feline Wellness Program
The following are general guidelines for vaccines and regular check-ups for Canines and Felines. Please feel free to call the clinic with any questions you may have about your specific breed.
Canine Wellness Program
Puppy Guidelines
- 3-4 Days Old: Dewclaw Removal and Tail Docking to Breed Standard
- 6 Weeks Old: Optional visit-recommend for at-risk breeds, hunting dogs, strays and if mother is not current on vaccinations.
- 8 Weeks Old: Traditional First Visit-Puppy Wellness exam, Deworming, and First Distemper/Hepatitis/Parvo/ParInfluenza (DHPP) Vaccine and heartworm prevention.
- 12 Weeks Old: 2nd Exam, 2nd dose of DHPP Vaccine, Dewormer, heartworm prevention, initial Rattlesnake Vaccine
- 16 Weeks Old: 3rd Exam. final dose of DHPP Vaccine, Dewormer, heartworm prevention, and Rattlesnake Vaccine booster.
- 20-24 Weeks Old: Neuter/Ovariohysterectomy
Adult Dog Guidelines
The following recommendations are for dogs that are one year old or older.
Monthly:
- Deworming and Heartworm Prevention medications (only after heartworm test performed-please note that testing is not done until after first year since heartworm takes 1 year to appear in system)
Annual Items:
- Physical Examination
- DHPP Vaccine
- Rattlesnake Vaccine
- Other Vaccines (based upon life style and environment):Kennel Cough (Bordetella), Giardia, Leptospirosis, Lyme Disease
Bi-Annual (every 2 years)
- Heartworm Testing
Tri-Annual (every 3 years)
- Rabies Vaccination
Other Items
- Flea and Tick Control-During Summer Months
- Dental Cleaning-depending upon breed and size of dog, but cleanings may be needed from every 6 months to every two years. Ask about this during your yearly physical exam.
Feline Wellness Program
Kitten Guidelines
- 8 Weeks Old: Traditional First Visit-Wellness Exam, Feline Viral Rhino Calici Panleukopenia Vaccine, Dewormer, and Feline HIV/Feline Leukemia Test.
- 12 Weeks Old: 2nd Exam, 2nd dose of FVRCP/FeLV Vaccine and Dewormer.
- 16 Weeks Old: Final Exam and final dose of FVRCP/FeLV Vaccine and Dewormer.
- 20-24 Weeks Old: Neuter/Ovariohysterectomy
Adult Feline Guidelines
The following recommendations are for cats that are one year old or older.
Monthly:

- FVRCP/FeLV Vaccine
- Deworming for Intestinal Parasites
Tri-Annual (every 3 years)

- Feline HIV and Feline Leukemia testing if a new cat, stray cat or vaccination history is unknown.
- Flea and Tick Control-During Summer Months
- Dental-Depending upon breed and size of cat, but cleanings may be needed from every 6 months to every two years. Ask about this during your yearly physical exam.
