Strasburg Veterinary Clinic History

Strasburg Veterinary Clinic was established in 1947 by Dr. Sidney Hanks.  At the time of its origin, Strasburg Veterinary Clinic was the only practice on the central eastern plains between Denver and Goodland, Kansas.  Dr. Sidney had an ambulatory practice, primarily servicing farmers and ranchers. A majority of the work involved testing for TB, Brucellosis, obstetrics, dairy and hog cholera vaccinations.  Dr. Sidney also had a small office and surgery in his house that allowed him to work on smaller animals.   During his years in practice, Dr. Sidney established herd health programs for many of the large ranches in the area.  Dr. Sidney was also active in organizing many of Strasburg's municipalities, including serving as the first Fire Chief and helping organize the community water and sanitation district.

After graduating from Colorado State University in 1985, Dr. Ken Hanks began working alongside his father, Dr. Sidney Hanks.  In 1986, Dr. Ken purchased the practice from Dr. Sidney and brought on Dr. Dyanne Caprio to help with the growing practice.  Seeing the need for a permanent space, Dr.Ken and Dr.Dyanne purchased an existing property and converted it to a new veterinary clinic (currently the Dan Weller Insurance Agency).  With the continuing growth of the practice, the current clinic was constructed in 2002, allowing the ability to provide top of the line services in a state of the art facility.

When the clinic began back in 1947, our goal was to provide quality veterinary care to each and every client.  As we move forward into the future, this still remains the main goal of Strasburg Veterinary Clinic.

Our Doctors and  Staff Members

 Ken Hanks, DVM

Dyanne Caprio, DVM

Reed Hanks, DVM

Dr. Reed started with Strasburg Veterinary Clinic back in 1991 or 1992.  No one is really sure of his date of employment.  After graduating from Deer Trail High School, Reed set off to the big city of Fort Collins to pursue his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.  He was also enticed to Fort Collins by the fact that he was not related to everyone in town, thus creating the possibilities of a dating pool previously unknown to him.  After finishing school at CSU, Reed settled in Strasburg after marrying a girl from Deer Trail (evidently, Ft. Collins wasn't all that it was cracked up to be). When not coaching one of his kids sports teams or watching his kids compete, Reed likes to help out on his dad's ranch and occasionally attempt sail boating.

Jodie Vetter, DVM

Dr. Jodie is a 2002 graduate of Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.  After receiving her degree, she was employed as an associate veterinarian by Peak View Animal Hospital in Fowler, Colorado.  Jodie loved working as a rural mixed animal veterinarian in the Arkansas Valley.  In 2004, she left Peak View Animal Hospital when she and her husband, Greg, gave birth to their first child, a son, David.

After spending some time off with her son, Jodie went to work for Bennett Veterinary Clinic in 2004.  In 2006, Jodie again took time off from veterinary practice to spend time with her son and newborn daughter, Anna.  She then started a small practice out of her home to service some of her loyal clients.  Jodie began working at the Strasburg Veterinary Clinic in the spring of 2007.  She is still currently employed a the clinic, practicing veterinary medicine on a variety of species.  Jodie's ambition after leaving vet school was to practice in a rural mixed animal practice.  She loves the rural lifestyle and the challenge of practicing veterinary medicine on different types of animals. Strasburg Veterinary Clinic provides Jodie with a great working environment, wonderful clients and unique and special patients.  After eight years of being a veterinarian, Jodie still loves the animals and people that make up her profession.  Jodie still gets enormous pleasure in practicing veterinary medicine.  She gets great satisfaction in building relationships with her patients and their families.

Jodie currently lives in Bennett with her husband Greg and their two children, David and Anna.  They have several animals that are included in their family.  They have two dogs, Rex and Max, and a cat named Millie.  Their outside pets include horses, cattle, rabbits and poultry.
